Inspirational Success Story:
Dr. Preciosa D. Villacruel is the main reason and driver for the existence of Graduate School of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng San Pablo which offer three (3) Graduate Programs, namely Master in Public Administration, Master in Business Administration and Master of Arts in Educational Management. With over two decades of teaching experience, from teaching high school to college and master’s students, she has consistently demonstrated excellence by inspiring curiosity, critical thinking and selflessness for the profession. She being the Dean of Graduate School and College of Teacher’s Education since 2021 and 2023, respectively, speaks only of one thing, she is a passionate educator, leader and colleague. Her dedication to the profession is undebatable, because she is not looking at her current salary grade nor at the current budgetary constraints to produce and mentor countless students to achieve academic and professional success. Many times, at the expense of her health and financial well-being. She is a champion of free, quality and inclusive education and she is more than deserving of the International Luminary Award in the Teaching category, because at these current times, we may have only few left with the same love, passion and enthusiasm in Teaching. This award will definitely inspire her more to her advocacy and dedication and will ignite more of her kind to share and uphold the integrity, dignity and pride of being an educator. Her famous line for the Graduate School is ” We don’t just wish for your Success, we work for it”.
Dr. Preciosa Villacruel unwavering commitment to establishing the Graduate School demonstrates her commitment to higher education and her support for students’ academic journeys in these three domains (MPA, MBA, MAEd). As a result, she established the sole Local government-run Institution in the province of Laguna to provide a master’s program. She also spearheaded a pioneering initiative to collaborate with Local government units for an executive class program to encourage LGU personnel in the region to pursue a Master in Public Administration. As of this school year, five nearby municipalities had participated in the MPA program, with over 50 employees enrolled. This with the vision geared on enhancing public servants’ qualification for efficient public service delivery as she has made to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. Dr. Villacruel is a prominent figure in preparing the students for professional challenges and growth. Thus, we cannot undermine this achievement and novel undertaking. Her thirst for knowledge can never be quench. Hence, after earning her Doctor in Education, she is now pursuing to add another laurel to her decorated academic journey, as Doctor in Public Administration.
Dr Villacruel can bring inspiration to the university and community in several impactful ways such by the introduction of innovative, creative and student-centered teaching strategies. She can be an excellent mentor to students and faculty members in their professional and personal growth, since she has an extensive experience that span over 2 decades. She can inspire and participate strong community engagement as she has extensive networks with fellow educators within the locality and even internationally. Example of which is the collaboration she facilitated with Thai Nguyen University wherein last year a Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the two Universities. Moreover, she can contribute to the University’s academic prestige as she has many co-authored published research works as well as show that despite limited resources, the university can offer qualify education and quality graduates that are equipped with skills and knowledge for nation building. As prominent advocate for gender and development, she can bring inspiration to working and single mothers, because she is a living testament of being able to balance her personal life with her professional life even without a partner to care for her 3 children and earned a PhD while working, altogether. She was recognized last year (2023) by the University as the ” Natatanging Juana” awardee, an award equivalent to “Outstanding Woman” or “Employee” of the Civil Service Commission. Lastly, Dr. Villacruel is a living testament that she walks the talk. Her strong work ethics, passion for education and strong dedication to research will inspire students and colleague like me to pursue our own academic and professional goals with enthusiasm.
