Inspirational Success Story:
Dr. Ju-im T. Jimlan implemented a Rain Harvesting System with a Biosand Filter. This system collected rainwater from the school building’s roof and stored it as a sustainable water source. The biosand filter was a water purification method that used layers of sand and gravel to remove pathogens and impurities, providing clean and safe water for the school. This hands-on environmental technology project integrated practical science learning with sustainability, teaching students about water conservation, treatment, and the importance of clean water access as part of the EduVenture project. As a result, he was awarded the Most Outstanding Aklanon in Basic Education in 2024.
He integrated the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using the Sense of Ownership Teaching Strategy The SDGs were showcased throughout the school environment, making them visible touchpoints for learning. By employing a “Sense of Ownership” strategy, the teacher encouraged students to personally connect with each goal, fostering responsibility and commitment to global challenges including climate action and quality education. This approach enhanced understanding by blending the curriculum with real-world issues. This accomplishment gained him recognition as a semifinalist in the 2022 Metrobank Outstanding Filipinos in Teaching Category.
He conducted Studies of Endemic Flora and Fauna on Campus via the Tuklas-Aral Initiative The teacher facilitated ecological research on the school’s native plants and animals, promoting biodiversity awareness. Through the Tuklas-Aral (Explore-Learn) Initiative, students engaged in guided scientific inquiry, field observation, and data collection, deepening their appreciation and knowledge of local ecosystems and conservation. Consequently, he earned a spot among 2017 Aklan’s Ten Outstanding Mentors.
He led Coral Planting Projects inspired by Earthans Strategic Intervention Material with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) Coral planting was a marine environmental restoration effort organized in collaboration with MENRO. Students learned about marine biology, reef ecosystems, and coastal protection while actively participating in restoring coral reefs, a critical habitat vital for biodiversity and shoreline stability. This was an application of learning and development. Owing to this, he was honored as a 2022 Dangal ng Bayan National Awardee.
He promoted Watershed Protection via Mangrove Planting through Eco School Toolkit Research Mangrove ecosystems protected watersheds by preventing soil erosion and filtering pollutants. This initiative involved students in planting and maintaining mangroves, enabling firsthand learning about ecological services and their role in climate resilience. The Eco School Toolkit provided research-based guidance for these activities. In recognition of this, he received the 2024 Outstanding Volunteer award by NEDA.
He led the “Adopt a Tree” Project with Seedlings from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) This community forestry initiative encouraged students and locals to plant and care for trees grown in nurseries supplied by DENR. It fostered environmental stewardship by creating green spaces, improving air quality, and supporting local biodiversity.
He established a Fully Functional Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) for Waste Management The MRF educated and engaged the school and community in solid waste segregation, recycling, and resource recovery. This facility reduced environmental pollution while teaching responsible waste handling practices and circular economy principles.
He organized a Decade-Long School Supplies Drive for Underprivileged Children This philanthropic effort provided educational materials annually to poor children in the municipality, supporting their schooling needs and promoting equal access to education.
He conducted the Project Raincoat for Indigenous Peoples (IP) Learners in Vivo Tangalan, Aklan Recognizing the specific needs of IP learners, especially in rain-prone areas, this project provided raincoats to help them remain comfortable and attend school regularly despite weather challenges, supporting inclusivity and equitable education.
