Inspirational Success Story:
Maevin Jerota’s student leadership and community involvement demonstrate meaningful civic impact at a young age. As a Management Accounting student at STI West Negros University and President of The Catalyst, she leads campus projects across five core areas: Education, Health and Wellness, Environment, Entrepreneurship, and Disaster Response. Her balance of academic study and community service earned her recognition as an Outstanding Gold Awardee at the 10th University Honors Day and Best Student Volunteer by the STIWNU Community Extension and Engagement Office.
Her primary community initiative, Project July 4: Annual Birthday Community Outreach Series, stands as a successfully implemented community program that delivers sustained aid—including food packages, hygiene kits, and learning materials—to farmstead families across rural Negros Occidental. To support youth engagement, she served as Project Lead for the KIYTA-AY Youth Fellowship Camp in Talisay City, serving over 100 youth attendees, and founded KIYTA Cares, a peer-support initiative focused on student wellness and emotional well-being.
In community outreach and economic support, Maevin focuses on direct assistance and service. As Lead Marketing Volunteer for the PWD Product Exhibition during STIWNU University Week, she assisted artisans with disabilities from Brgy. Mandalagan in selling their handcrafted goods, ensuring all generated income went directly back to the creators. Additionally, she contributes as a volunteer in local medical missions across communities such as Suyac Island and assists in relief distribution drives for families affected by Typhoon Tino.
Through her proven ability to turn empathy into organized action, Maevin embodies the true spirit of the IIARI Luminary Award in Civic Works. Her initiatives show that meaningful youth leadership is measured not by recognition, but by the tangible, lasting change brought to vulnerable communities. By bridging academic training with direct community service, she sets an inspiring standard for how young leaders can create lasting social good.
