Sustaining a generation of research scholars.

What is NRQ?

National Research Quiz (NRQ) is an annual competition open to Filipino high school and undergraduate students. It is the social responsibility initiative of the Institute of Industry and Academic Research Incorporated aimed at nurturing a generation of research scholars. It serves as a platform for research enthusiasts to showcase their knowledge and skills in a healthy national competition.

ELIGIBILITY

The NRQ is open to all currently enrolled high school and undergraduate (college and vocational) students from all fields of specialization. This is a team competition composed of three official competitors, one alternate, and one adviser/mentor. A team may consist entirely of high school students, entirely of undergraduate students, or a combination of both, provided they are from the same school. The adviser/mentor may be a teacher from the same school or an alumnus/alumna of the institution. Each school may send a maximum of two teams to the competition.

ELIMINATION ROUND

The elimination round is an individual online quiz. The three-member teams from each school will participate in the elimination round through a virtual event. Each competitor will answer the online quiz simultaneously. The Institute will determine the software or program to be used for the quiz.

The individual scores of the team members will be combined, and the top 10 teams with the highest total scores will advance to the final round. At the end of the elimination round, awards will be given to the top three individual scorers and the top three highest-scoring teams.

FINAL ROUND

The top 10 highest-scoring teams from the elimination round will advance to the final round. The final round consists of two stages. The first stage is a team competition involving the three official competitors. At the end of this stage, the top three teams with the highest scores will advance to the second stage to determine their final placements. The second stage is the “money round,” in which each question corresponds to a cash prize. A unique feature of this round is that the adviser/mentor joins the team in the competition. At the end of the contest, only the highest-scoring team will take home the cash prizes from the second round.

PRIZES

During the elimination round, all participating students (including advisers/mentors and alternates), participating schools, and individual and team winners will receive e-certificates.

In the final round, the top 10 teams will receive individual certificates (including the adviser/mentor and the alternate) as well as a plaque for their school. The top three teams will receive certificates, medals, and plaques. The grand champion will take home the total cash amount earned during the second stage of the final round (money round).
