Inspirational success story:
Dr. Froilan D. Mobo has built a career that connects maritime education, information technology, research, and community leadership. As a Full Professor II at the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA), he has dedicated more than 15 years to digital transformation in maritime education, helping prepare future seafarers for an increasingly technology-driven industry.
His work in advanced technology is also reflected in his research on disaster resilience and maritime safety. A notable achievement is his 2026 co-authored book chapter, “Predicting Earthquakes, Eruptions, and Tsunamis With Machine Learning Forecasting,” which explores the application of machine learning to the prediction of major natural hazards. The work demonstrates his focus on applying emerging technologies to issues involving disaster preparedness and safety.
Dr. Mobo has likewise made contributions to scholarly publishing. As Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief, he has been involved in providing a platform for researchers to disseminate their work internationally, particularly researchers from developing countries.
Beyond his academic and publishing work, Dr. Mobo has taken on leadership roles in humanitarian and community initiatives. He serves as President of the International Human Rights Movement (IHRM) Philippines, extending his leadership into human rights advocacy and peace-related activities.
Through these roles, Dr. Mobo’s work extends from the maritime classroom and technology research to scholarly publishing, human rights advocacy, and direct community administration. His career reflects a continuing effort to apply his expertise across academic, professional, and community settings.
