Faculty-researcher and extension coordinator

Jupeth Toriano Pentang

Jupeth is a faculty-researcher and extension coordinator at the College of Education, Western Philippines University. He has advocated for research and extension work in the college since he started as an instructor last August 2019. He does not only focus on his research but also shares his knowledge, skills, and experiences with his colleagues, even if they are his seniors. He also provides free consultation and mentoring to students and professionals inside and outside the institution. He provides technical assistance in research writing and guided other researchers in statistics, including paper publication.

Among the 55 faculty members of the college, he was admired the most for his commitment and excellence in working on several studies and pursuing research collaborations with local and foreign authors. Moreover, his papers were utilized by the college for different purposes, including extension planning and accreditation, among others. As of this writing, he has 21 research publications as primary, corresponding, and co-author that are internationally peer-reviewed and indexed in Scopus (4), Web of Science (1), and ASEAN Citation Index (1), among others. He co-authored four books, in circulation nationwide. He was able to present papers at national and international conferences. Furthermore, he is part of the Editorial Board and a Peer Reviewer of national and international research journals. Currently, he is working on research to develop and produce materials for Instruction and Extension, particularly in Mathematics, Education, and Social Sciences.

He is an inspiration to do research and an encouragement to reach needy individuals and communities through research outputs. He is currently implementing Project Math-EMATICS (Enhanced Mentoring, Tutorial, and Assistance to Indigent and Challenged Youths), which was derived from research outputs. Project Math-EMATICS has been for three years and is the only extension project of the college that the University’s Board of Regents approved in 2021. He also was instrumental in capacitating graduate students to publish their research outputs and utilize them for policy- and decision-making in their schools. He even extended his assistance as a resource speaker for DepEd teachers writing and conceptualizing their action research. Further, he is working on a partnership with several institutions to support its research, development, and extension unit. These efforts have made him the College Extension Coordinator, even with his young experience.
