Morlan is a Master Teacher II at San Antonio National High School in the Philippines. His endeavors are all geared toward the advancement of his students, his co-teachers, and ultimately the school, district, and division that he serves. In the last three years, he has both carried out research endeavors and promoted the presentation, compilation, utilization, and publication of research by students and colleagues alike at both school and district levels. This passion for the creation and distribution of contextualized knowledge is, needless to say, important and seminal in the foundation and promotion of an educational system that is responsive to the needs of the local community. He went out of his way to establish this culture of excellence in research not only in his school but also in the District of San Antonio.
In 2016, the San Antonio district had but little to non-existent research culture. When he was assigned to both San Antonio National High School (SANHS) and Callejon NHS (CNHS), he proved his will and dedication to strengthen and intensify the culture of research among students, teachers, and administrators alike. Junior and Senior high school students were given the chance to present their research findings at the district level, division level, and in RACE 2019. More teachers were also encouraged to conduct action research and present the same in different fora and conferences. With more students and teachers producing research outputs, he initiated their publication in Tonyo’s Journal which he launched for the district in 2019 at CNHS. Despite the often insufficient budget, he was able to push the journal through the indubitable generosity of the community, the local government unit, stakeholders, and private individuals.
In 2021, he and his team were able to launch BAGWIS, the San Antonio District Journal of Basic Education Researches. This year, he is set to release the first issue of The PROBE, the official research journal of San Antonio National High School. With these endeavors, the District has since recognized his capabilities and has assigned him to help in heading both public and private-initiated projects and activities for which he serves as LAC Facilitator, IN-SET speaker, and panelist in nearby schools. He endeavors in the last six years to uplift the culture of research in the entire district.
He is the major proponent of the following projects: ReACH (Research and Collaboration among High School Students) and SHARE 2022 (Sharing High School Accomplishments in Research Endeavors) for students; ReACT (Research and Collaboration among Teachers) and SPReAD (Sharing and Promoting Research Advocacy) for teachers and school leaders; and Tonyo’s Journal, The PROBE, and BAGWIS publications for the community at large.
