Volume 5 Issue 1, July 2024

This study aimed to explore the lived experiences of teachers-in-charge in the performance of their ancillary workloads, the challenges they encountered, their aspirations and motivations, and their coping mechanism in dealing with the challenges encountered. A qualitative research using phenomenological approach and thematic analysis method through an in-depth semi-structured face-to-face interview, utilizing a semi-structured interview guide developed for the study, was conducted among six (6) purposively identified teachers-in- charge in elementary schools in the District of Malinao, Aklan, S.Y. 2022-2023. Findings of this study revealed that participants are preoccupied, overloaded, overworked, yet they find their job fulfilling. Participants encounter challenges due to overlapping of activities, struggle with school management and program implementations, and have a work-life imbalance. They cope-up with the challenges encountered with good time management, building support systems, and engaging in professional development through trainings and seminars. Furthermore, teachers-in-charge performing ancillary workloads are versatile, systematic with good time management; exceptional and empowered teachers--fostering valuable attributes, dedication, commitment, and love for their profession, which keeps them motivated and aspire for professional growth and career advancement. This study provides factual information on the status quo of teachers-in- charge performing ancillary workloads for intervention programs and serves as reference for future researchers on the conduct of related study.
