This study aimed to explore the integration and utilization of local arts and crafts in teaching Contemporary Philippine Arts from the Regions (CPAR) subject in Senior High School that will serve as the basis for an enhancement program. Employing a qualitative research design, this study was conducted in the District of Pandan, Antique of the Department of Education, with Senior High School (SHS) teachers handling the CPAR subject as key informants. This study found out that local arts and crafts integrated and utilized were those that were made from natural materials due to their commonality and availability in the locality and with the intention to promote them and to motivate learners. Those that were excluded were installation arts such as sculptures and architectural structures, arts and crafts that are scarce and with high material cost, and those that pose high risk and danger when making them. Related issues and concerns identified were inadequate skills, the lack of materials and equipment, and safety concerns. Best practices in teaching CPAR are art application and skills development, and capability-building/ skills enhancement activities. Recommendations include an inventory of local arts and crafts within the community, increased involvement in awareness-raising and promotion, sustained administrative support for professional development opportunities for CPAR teachers, sustained parental engagement to obtain their support, and sustained engagement with artisans.
