This phenomenological study aimed to provide well-researched evidence on the self-identity, self-determination, and self-care of Indigenous Aeta community in Barangay Taminla, Dueñas, Iloilo, Philippines. Seven Ati participants were selected through purposive sampling. Permits were obtained from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) before conducting the study. Data were collected using interview guide for in-depth one-on-one interviews. Qualitative data gathered were analyzed thematically. Aetas possess a distinct identity that sets them apart as a unique group. They are determined to pursue their dreams. Their self-care practices include consulting traditional healers like Arbularyo. Aetas are adopting practices such as visiting health centers. Aetas remain proud of their identity and are committed to achieving their dreams. They blend traditional self-care practices with new lifestyle changes to improve their lives. This research provides a foundation for developing sustainable programs and measures to protect Aeta rights. It aims to enhance their acceptance in the community and support their aspirations, contributing to the creation of a healthy, dynamic, and holistic Aeta community. The findings will inform policy development for preserving their unique cultural heritage and traditions.
