Children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) face challenges in communication, emotional control, sensory processing, and social engagement. While creative and sensory-based therapies gain recognition for their benefits, structured, culturally relevant models for low- and middle-income countries remain scarce. This research evaluates a new integrated indigenous therapeutic approach merging music-based intervention, Indian art therapy, and Kerala sand play into standard neurodevelopmental treatment. This preliminary study took place at the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College in Kerala, India, in the Division of Child Neurology and Developmental Pediatrics. The model comprises three key components based on developmental principles: (1) musical activities focusing on rhythm and interaction, (2) expressive therapies using culturally familiar Indian art forms, and (3) symbolic sand play from the Kerala model incorporating sensory experiences. Children with neurodevelopmental challenges engaged in customized interventions alongside traditional play-based therapy. The effectiveness was evaluated through clinical observations, caregiver feedback, and standardized assessments of adaptive behavior, emphasizing attention, emotional regulation, communication, social interaction, and adaptive functioning. The integrated model was effectively incorporated into routine clinical services. The children exhibited enhancements in attention, joint attention, emotional responsiveness, sensory regulation, and social engagement during each session. Quantitative assessments are scheduled, and analyses of long-term and controlled outcomes are ongoing. This study introduces a culturally informed, integrated creative-sensory approach for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. The model provides a practical, scalable framework that enhances traditional therapies, especially in resource-limited settings. Further systematic assessments are needed to confirm effectiveness, outline training, and facilitate adoption.
