Lived Experiences of Senior High School Transferred-in Learners

This study aimed to explore the lived experiences, challenges encountered, and coping mechanisms of the Senior High School transferred-in learners at Pandan National Vocational High School and recommend programs to support them succeed in their studies. Phenomenological research design was utilized in this study. There were seven (7) participants in the study which were purposively chosen by the researcher. Researcher-made interview guide was formulated during the focus group discussion for data collection. The data gathered were subjected to content analysis to come up with significant meanings which were categorized into themes. The findings of the study revealed the following: (1) the cause of the transfer of the learners are the choice of the strand offerings of the school, the financial problem of the family, and the extracurricular activities of the learners; (2) the challenges encountered by the transferred-in learners are the volume of the school work, new routines, and social and emotional impact; (3) the coping mechanisms of the transferred-in learners include the power of friendship and peer support, the assistance and help from the teachers, and self-efficacy which is their ability to survive on their own. The results imply the development of an effective intervention program to support the transition of the transferred-in learners in the new environment to succeed in their studies.
