This study was conducted to describe the lived experiences, challenges encountered and coping mechanism of Alternative Learning System (ALS) learners in the District of San Remigio in the Schools Division of Antique for School Year 2023-2024. The qualitative research design was employed in this study. The respondents of this study were all the ALS passers in the District of San Remigio in the Division of Antique. Due to a big number of ALS passers, the inclusion criteria were used through selecting the seven participants by conducting interview. This study shows that the lived experiences of ALS learners involve: quitting school due to lack of financial resources; dealing with difficult access between home and school; working to help the family make ends meet; lastly, starting a family due to early marriage. Many challenges also affect ALS learners including: lack of family support; limited time to study due to work/other responsibilities; difficulties of independent learning; and difficult access to the ALS community learning center. Learners have these coping mechanisms: positive outlook in life; goal to complete education; faith in God; guidance and moral support from ALS teachers; and encouragement from fellow ALS learners. Hence, ALS learners mostly have experienced hardships but learners themselves have positive perceptions toward education. On the other hand, ALS teachers always find ways to achieve the goal of education and holistic development of learners.
