Professional Background
Prof. Dr. Rose Maureen Makapi Mmusi-Phetoe is a distinguished South African public health scholar, researcher, and academic leader with extensive expertise in community health, maternal and child health, population studies, health policy, and public health systems. She currently serves as Full Professor of Public Health and Professor Extraordinaire in Health Studies at the University of South Africa. With a career spanning over three decades, she has held senior positions in academia, government, and international organizations, including the United Nations Children’s Fund and the National Energy Regulator of South Africa.
Prof. Mmusi-Phetoe holds a Doctor of Literature and Philosophy in Sociology from the University of South Africa, complemented by master’s degrees in Population and Development and Demography. She has successfully supervised numerous master’s and doctoral students across Africa and has contributed significantly to public health research, policy development, capacity building, and program evaluation.
