This study explores the comparative effectiveness of diesel-powered and solar-powered pump irrigation systems in rice farming within a rural agricultural setting. It aimed to identify which system yields better outcomes in productivity, cost-efficiency, and sustainability. Fifty farmer-respondents were equally divided between users of diesel and solar-powered systems. Data were collected through structured surveys and analyzed to compare rice yield, operational costs, irrigation frequency, land ownership, and system-related challenges. Results showed that farmers using solar-powered irrigation produced more rice on average than those using diesel-powered pumps. Solar systems enabled more consistent and timely irrigation, unaffected by fuel prices or maintenance issues. In contrast, diesel pump users faced limited irrigation schedules, machine damage, and rising fuel costs. The study highlights the growing role of renewable energy in agriculture and recommends government support through financial aid, training, and subsidies. These measures can enhance access to solar irrigation, improve productivity, foster rural development, and promote environmentally sustainable farming practices.
