Professional Background
With nearly three decades of experience in education, Prof. Dr. Masilo France Machaba has established himself as one of South Africa’s leading scholars in mathematics education. Currently serving as the Acting Chair of the Department of Mathematics Education at the University of South Africa (UNISA), he combines academic excellence, educational leadership, and impactful research to improve mathematics teaching and learning across Africa.
A C2-rated researcher by South Africa’s National Research Foundation (NRF), Prof. Machaba has authored numerous journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers in internationally recognized journals. His research focuses on mathematics teaching, learner misconceptions, mathematical literacy, teacher professional development, technology-enhanced learning, and curriculum innovation.
Beyond research, Prof. Machaba has supervised and examined a substantial number of master’s and doctoral students, mentoring the next generation of mathematics education researchers from South Africa and across the African continent. His commitment to scholarly excellence is further reflected in his leadership of collaborative research projects and his service as a reviewer, editor, and subject specialist for national educational bodies.
